Wat Phra Putthabat Tak Pha, Lamphun, Thailand
high-definition creative commons photographs from this temple in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand, showing the architecture, statues and decoration work, including a giant Buddha Footprint, together with further information.
Wat Phra Putthabat Tak Pha is situated around 10 km south of Lamphun and is famous for two things: a large footprint of the Buddha, and a rock which supposedly shows the imprint of his robe (unphotographed here).
The temple is in two sections with a large Chedi on top of the nearby mountain and a Viharn and other buildings at the foot. I liked some of the glasswork we found here, both on ceilings, gables, pillars, pediments and walls.
The large Chedi on the top of the hill and the complex that surrounds it is also worth seeing, and it commands a wonderful view out over the surrounding countryside, including a very Roman road leading back to Chiang Mai.
