This chapter describes the grand ceremony for laying the foundation stone of the Mahāthūpa. King Duṭṭhagāmaṇi invited thousands of Arahats from across the Buddhist world to witness the event. The ritual was performed with extreme precision and immense celebration, marking the start of a project intended to be the ultimate architectural expression of faith. The presence of so many Arahats sanctified the site, ensuring the Thūpa’s enduring spiritual power.
