VI. The Maricavaṭṭi Thūpa

high-definition creative commons photographs from The Maricavaṭṭi Thūpa from The Legend of the Thūpas together with further information.

After defeating foreign invaders, King Duṭṭhagāmaṇi founded the Maricavaṭṭi monastery and its central Thūpa as an act of merit. The king dedicated the site to the community of Arahats as a gesture of gratitude for their spiritual support during his campaigns. This chapter highlights the king’s devotion, showing how his military success was intrinsically linked to his desire to protect the Dhamma and provide grand residences for the holy Arahats.
