The arrival of Thera Mahinda, a powerful Arahat, marked the formal introduction of Buddhism to Ceylon. This chapter describes the establishment of the first monasteries and the initial construction of Thūpas on the island under the patronage of King Devānampiyatissa. These early structures served as the spiritual heart of the new Buddhist community, providing a place for both local converts and visiting Arahats to practice and preserve the Dhamma.
