40. The Last Instructions of the Realised One

high-definition creative commons photographs about The Last Instructions of the Realised One together with further information.

The Buddha gives his final guidance to the Saṅgha. He tells them that after he is gone, the Dhamma and the Discipline (Vinaya) shall be their teacher. He allows for the abolishment of minor rules and instructs on how to handle the monk Channa. Finally, he asks the monks three times if they have any doubts or questions. When they remain silent, he utters his final words: “All conditioned things are subject to decay; strive on with diligence.”
