33. Worshipping the Realised One

high-definition creative commons photographs about Worshipping the Realised One together with further information.

Arriving at the Sāl Wood of Kusinārā, the Buddha lies down between twin Sāl trees, which bloom out of season, showering him with blossoms. Divine music and sandalwood powder fall from the sky in worship. However, the Buddha tells Ānanda that such external displays are not the highest worship. Instead, the person who practices the Dhamma in accordance with the Dhamma and lives with integrity truly honors, respects, and reveres the Tathāgata.
