At the Capala Shrine, the Buddha hints three times to Ānanda that a Tathāgata has the power to remain for an entire aeon if requested. However, Ānanda’s mind is clouded by Māra, and he fails to make the request. Consequently, the Buddha sends Ānanda away. This failure is a pivotal moment in the narrative, signifying that the window for the Buddha to extend his physical life has closed due to the lack of a formal invitation.
