The Buddha arrives in Vesali and stays in Ambapāli’s mango grove. Hearing of his arrival, the wealthy courtesan invites him and the Saṅgha for a meal. Though the local Licchavi princes attempt to buy the invitation from her for a vast sum, she refuses, prioritising the merit of serving the Buddha. After the meal, she donates her pleasure park to the Saṅgha. The Buddha accepts, emphasising that virtue and wisdom are the highest fruits.
