In this chapter, Mahinda Thera preaches at the Mahāmegha garden, leading Queen Anulā and five hundred women to attain the first stages of enlightenment. Eager to ordain, Anulā requests entry into the Saṅgha. However, Mahinda explains that monks cannot ordain women. He advises King Tissa to send an embassy to King Asoka, requesting Saṅghamittā Therī to travel to Lanka to establish the Bhikkhunī order and bring a sapling of the sacred Bodhi tree.
