In Sāvatthi, friends Soma Brāhmaṇa and Somadatta Brāhmaṇa bonded after a gambling dispute. When Somadatta was sentenced to death for paradārakamma (adultery), Somabrāhmaṇa selflessly sacrificed his own life to save him. Reborn in heaven, Somabrāhmaṇa later returned to assist his friend, taking him to the celestial realm and gifting him a cintāmaṇi. Eventually, Somadatta and his beautiful wife also attained rebirth in the divine realm through their shared merit.
