IX. The Council of War

high-definition creative commons photographs from The Council of War in the Ramayana together with further information.

Rama prepares for an invasion of Lanka. He holds a council with Sugriva and the Vanara leaders to strategize the crossing of the ocean. Meanwhile, in Lanka, Ravana’s brother Vibhishana advises returning Sita to avoid total destruction. Ravana scorns him, leading Vibhishana to defect to Rama’s side. Rama accepts him as a righteous ally. The army eventually constructs a miraculous stone bridge across the sea, allowing the vast forces to reach Lanka’s shores.
