Following Rama’s departure, King Dasaratha is consumed by overwhelming grief and remorse. He recounts a past sin where he accidentally killed a young hermit, receiving a curse that he would die yearning for his son. As Rama ventures deeper into the forest, the King’s health fails rapidly. He passes away in the night, leaving the throne of Ayodhya vacant and the kingdom in deep mourning, awaiting the return of the younger princes.
