Wisdom arises from thinking, hearing, or meditation. Basic wisdom comes from learning from the wise. Four kinds of wise persons: original thinkers, learned, interpreters of meaning, and those with ready speech. Wisdom perceives with discrimination, penetrates reality, and overcomes ignorance. The story of Sulasā shows wisdom can involve knowing about evil without committing it. True wisdom understands four noble truths and three characteristics of existence.
