03 Renunication (Nekkhamma)

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Renunication (Nekkhamma)based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.

Renunciation means emancipation from sense-desires and Saṁsāra. Three wrong thoughts (sensuous, hateful, cruel) versus right thoughts (renunciation, hatelessness, non-violence). Renunciation can precede or follow monastic life. Forest dwelling has five types; only those praised by Buddhas or with few wishes are commendable. Renunciation by old married people is more difficult than by youths. Supreme renunciation is exemplified by King Cūḷa Sutasoma who went to the Himālayas despite pleas.
