01 Generosity (Dāna)
high-definition creative commons posters depicting Generosity (Dāna)based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.
Generosity (dāna) involves volition to give suitable things. Distinguished from charity (pariccāga)—giving to noble persons versus lower status, personal distribution versus abandoning possessions. True giving requires supporter, objects, recipient, and volition. Great charities include relinquishing limbs, eyes, wealth, kingdom, family. Volitional and material generosity both contribute to merit. Four conditions must be fulfilled for an act to qualify as true generosity.
