The Cōḻa king announces the grand 28-day festival of Indra in Puhār, drawing gods and crowds to ensure prosperity and rain. Amidst the celebrations, Mādhavī, a former courtesan and mother of Maṇimēkhalai, refuses to dance and decides to renounce the world to become a Buddhist nun, leaving Maṇimēkhalai confused about her own future as her beauty attracts the attention of the young Cōḻa prince.
