On August 13, 1982 Mahāsi Sayādaw had a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. He peacefully passed away the next morning at Rangoon General Hospital. A massive state and public mourning period followed, culminating in a historic funeral procession attended by over 300,000 people. By 1984, the Buddha Sāsana Nuggaha Organization stabilized operations and officially resumed his global missionary mandate.
