Mahāsi Sayādaw made his final overseas missionary tour in 1981, sparked by a Nepalese delegation’s training in Yangon. Arriving in Kathmandu, the Sayādaw delivered public Dhamma discourses translated into English and Hindi. He also made a symbolic pilgrimage to Buddha’s birthplace in Lumbini. This historic 24-day journey successfully capped his lifelong work of globalizing Theravāda Buddhism before his return home.
