The revival of Buddhism in Indonesia was modeled directly after the structured Sri Lankan expansion. Indonesian schoolteacher Mr. Boon Aun underwent intensive Vipassanā training under Mahāsi Sayādaw and was ordained as Venerable Jinarakkhita. To anchor the lineage sustainably, Mahāsi Sayādaw consecrated sacred ordination boundaries (Sīmā). This empowered local higher ordinations and enabled Ven. Jinarakkhita to launch a massive propagation tour across Java.
