05 Teaching Vipassanā

high-definition creative commons photographs about Teaching Vipassanā from the Life of Mahasi Sayadaw together with further information.

Securing permission in 1931, Ashin Sobhana journeyed barefoot with minimal monastic requisites. After a brief pilgrimage visiting holy shrines and practicing cemetery dhutaṅga for four nights, he reached Jetāvan monastery. He immediately plunged into rigorous mindfulness practice, refraining from speech for four months and conquering sleep. His exceptional health during this intense exertion was attributed by his preceptor to the healing power of the Bojjhaṅga factors.
