In 1924, Ashin Sobhana easily passed the government’s initial Pathamabyan examination, followed by the Pathamalat exam in 1926. Seeking higher scriptural knowledge under eminent teachers, he relocated to Mandalay, Burma’s spiritual learning center, in 1928. For over a year, he studied Pāḷi commentaries and discourses, demonstrating exceptional scholastic ability before an unforeseen family tragedy forced his return to Seikkhun in 1929.
