high-definition creative commons posters depicting Ven. Kisā Gotamī based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.
She resolved to be content with coarse robes during Buddha Padumuttara’s ministry. Born poor and lean, she married well but her son died. Unable to accept his death, she sought medicine from the Buddha. He sent her to find mustard oil from a house untouched by death which was impossible, but she gained insight. Realizing death’s universality, she became a Stream-enterer, then an Arahat while watching a lamp’s flame, earning the title for wearing coarse robes.
