07 Ven. Soṇā

high-definition creative commons posters depicting Ven. Soṇā based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.

Her quest for earnest endeavour began with Buddha Padumuttara. Mother of ten ungrateful children, she became a nun in her old age but was ridiculed by her seniors and mocked by her offspring. This spurred her to unrelenting effort—meditating ceaselessly while holding a post or tree at night. The Buddha praised her diligence, and she attained Arahatship, even miraculously heating water without fire. She was declared foremost in earnest effort.
