06 Ven. Nandā
high-definition creative commons posters depicting Ven. Nandā based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.
She first aspired to be foremost in absorption under Buddha Padumuttara. Born as the beautiful Sakyan Princess Janapadakalyāṇī in her last life, she avoided the Buddha fearing criticism of her looks. He created a vision of surpassing beauty that humbled her. Hearing verses on the body’s loathsomeness and the Discourse about Victory, she meditated diligently and became an Arahat. The Buddha declared her the foremost nun in enjoying meditative absorption.
