She sought excellence in Vinaya learning under Buddha Padumuttara. Born in Sāvatthī, she eloped with a servant but suffered devastating losses: her husband died, her children perished, and her family was destroyed. Mad with grief, she met the Buddha, who taught her about the tears of countless lives. She became a Stream-enterer, then an Arahat, and later was declared foremost in Vinaya knowledge.
