As a minister under King Kaṭṭhavāhana, he followed Bāvarī. Sent with 15 others to question the Buddha, his conceit caused delays. He finally asked how to perceive the world to escape death. The Buddha replied: Perceive the world as empty. He became an Arahat. Declared foremost in wearing coarse robes, he exemplifies humility’s victory over pride.
