high-definition creative commons photographs about Ven. Sāgata from the Great Chronicles together with further information.
Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired to master the fire-element meditation. In his final life, he tamed a vicious serpent by producing greater flames. Later at Kosambī, he drank alcohol offered by lay supporters and became intoxicated. After recovering, he felt deep remorse, strove diligently, and became an Arahat. He was declared foremost in fire-element mastery.
