37. Ven. Nanda
high-definition creative commons photographs about Ven. Nanda from the Great Chronicles together with further information.
Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired to guard his sense faculties. In his final life as the Buddha’s cousin, he pined for his wife. The Buddha showed him celestial maidens, promising them if he practised. Mocked as mercenary, he felt remorse, guarded his senses strictly, and became an Arahat. He was declared foremost in sense-restraint.
