Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired to a large following. As Prince Sumana, he served Buddha Phussa. In his final life he was a fire-worshipping ascetic with 500 disciples, he was converted by the Buddha through 3,500 miracles, including taming a Nāga. He and his 1,000 followers ordained and became Arahats. He was declared foremost in having a large following.
