Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired to win high esteem. He ordained and was reprimanded for admitting a disciple too early. Determined to earn praise, he meditated and became an Arahat. He gained 500 disciples through his forest-dwelling example. He was declared foremost in winning a following. He died serenely after a snake bite, showing no change in faculties.
