23. Ven. Vaṅgīsa

high-definition creative commons photographs about Ven. Vaṅgīsa from the Great Chronicles together with further information.

Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired to quick wit. A Brahmin skilled in reading skulls, he couldn't tell the destiny of an Arahat. The Buddha taught him, and he ordained to learn the Buddha-mantra. Meditating on the body’s 32 parts, he became an Arahat. He composed spontaneous verses praising the Buddha and was declared foremost in poetic wit.
