Under Buddha Padumuttara, he aspired for a sweet teaching voice. His mother Kāḷī became a Stream-enterer after overhearing a Yakkha’s discourse. Soṇa saw ghosts suffering for past misdeeds, inspiring spiritual urgency. After three years, he ordained under Mahā Kaccāyana, became an Arahat, and was invited to the Buddha’s chamber. He was declared foremost in sweet-voiced teaching.
