2-3. Ven. Sāriputta and Ven. Moggallāna

high-definition creative commons photographs about Ven. Sāriputta and Ven. Moggallāna from the Great Chronicles together with further information.

Under Buddha Anomadassī the friends Sarada and Sirivaḍḍhana aspired to become chief disciples under a future Buddha. Sarada held a floral umbrella over the Buddha for seven days, while Sirivaḍḍhana performed a great alms-giving. Their aspiration was fulfilled one immeasurable period later. In their final existence as Upatissa and Kolita, they renounced worldly pleasures together and became the Buddha’s two chief disciples.
