Uggata, a wealthy householder, met Buddha Gotama during a drunken spree. Instantly sobered, he became a Non-returner after hearing a discourse. He transformed his life, embracing celibacy and profound generosity. Renowned for eight marvellous qualities, Uggata attended to the Sangha without discrimination, treating all monastics with equal reverence regardless of their morality. The Buddha declared him the foremost lay disciple for his impartial devotion and dedicated service to the Sangha.
