04 Hatthaka Āḷavaka
high-definition creative commons posters depicting Hatthaka Āḷavaka based on the Great Chronicles of the Buddhas together with further information.
Reborn as Prince Āḷavaka, Hatthaka was saved from sacrifice after the Buddha converted the Yakkha Āḷavaka. Handed from the Yakkha to the Buddha, he earned the name Hatthaka. He eventually became an intelligent Non-returner and mastered the Tipiṭaka. For his mastery of the four ways of kind treatment—generosity, kind speech, beneficial conduct, and impartiality—the Buddha declared him the foremost among all lay disciples.
