King Devānampiyatissa formally donated the Mahāmeghavana park to the Sangha, marking the founding of the Mahāvihāra, the heart of Theravāda Buddhism. Mahinda accepted the donation by scattering jasmine flowers, which triggered miraculous earthquakes signifying the earth’s approval. The chapter describes the establishment of the first residence for monks and the King’s total devotion, ensuring that the monastic community had a permanent, legally consecrated base to teach and preserve the scriptures.
