XIII. [The Earthquakes]

high-definition creative commons photographs from The Earthquakes in the Chronicle of the Island together with further information.

After the King’s conversion, Mahinda entered Anurādhapura. He preached various discourses to the royalty and citizens, leading to thousands attaining enlightenment. The King offered the Mahāmeghavana garden to the Sangha. Mahinda proceeded to mark the boundaries of several sacred sites where future shrines and monasteries would stand. By ritually "fixing" these locations, Mahinda established the spiritual geography of the island, ensuring the Dhamma would remain firmly rooted there.
