The Elder Mahinda, son of Asoka, traveled through the air and landed on Missaka Mountain (Mihintale). There, he encountered King Devānampiyatissa during a royal hunt. Mahinda tested the King’s wisdom with riddles before preaching the Cūḷahatthipadopama Sutta. The King and his followers immediately converted. This pivotal moment marks the formal introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka, leading to the King’s invitation for the monks to enter the capital.
