King Devānampiyatissa, a virtuous ruler, ascended the throne and established a diplomatic friendship with King Asoka. Though they never met, Asoka sent the king royal regalia for a second coronation and a message urging him to take refuge in the Triple Gem. During this reign, miraculous omens appeared across the island. The King’s readiness for the Dhamma set the stage for the arrival of the Great Mahinda from India.
