X. [Paṇḍuvāsa]

high-definition creative commons photographs from Paṇḍuvāsa in the Chronicle of the Island together with further information.

Following Vijaya’s death, his nephew Panduvāsudeva arrived from India to take the throne, accompanied by Princess Bhaddakaccānā. Their reign stabilized the monarchy and introduced the Sakya bloodline to the island. The chapter details the subsequent reigns, including the long and prosperous rule of Pandukābhaya, who founded the capital Anurādhapura. These rulers laid the political and infrastructural foundations necessary for the eventual official introduction of Buddhism under King Devānampiyatissa.
