Following the Third Council, Moggaliputta Tissa dispatched missionaries to nine different regions to spread the Dhamma. Great elders like Majjhantika and Mahādeva traveled to lands including Gandhāra, Mahīsamandala, and Suvaṇṇabhūmi. Each mission successfully converted thousands and established the monastic lineage. This chapter underscores the global expansion of Buddhism, setting the stage for the most significant mission: Mahinda’s journey to the island of Tambapaṇṇi (Sri Lanka).
