4. The Universal Law of Nature
high-definition creative commons photographs from Bhikkhu Sumedha’s Chapter on The Universal Law of Nature together with further information.
This chapter explores the universal laws of impermanence (anicca), suffering (dukkha), and non-self (anatta). It argues that everything in the perceivable universe, including the body and mind, is dependent on causal factors and cannot be controlled by wishing or wanting. Suffering is viewed as a punishment for ignoring these laws through the illusions of permanence, attachment, and ego. True peace comes from acting in alignment with nature.
