high-definition creative commons photographs about Conversion to Buddhism together with further information.
Aśoka converted to Buddhism in his fourth regnal year (c.265 BCE) after encountering the seven-year-old novice Nigrodha, who preached on heedfulness. His devotion grew gradually through Saṁgha association. The Kalinga War (c.261 BCE, year 9) later caused deep remorse but was not his conversion moment. By the eleventh year, he became an active teacher of piety. He had a deep knowledge of Buddhist texts and was commited to the Triple Gem.
