This sequence covers the Buddha’s conversion of the three Kassapa brothers and their 1,000 matted-hair ascetic followers. To humble their pride, the Buddha performs a series of 3,500 miracles, including subduing a venomous serpent, reading minds, and controlling the elements (fire and water). Once the ascetics recognize his superior power and wisdom, they request ordination. The narrative culminates in the Fire Sermon, where the Buddha teaches that all senses and experiences are burning with passion, hatred, and delusion, leading the entire assembly to full Awakening.
