2. Starting to Teach

high-definition creative commons photographs from Starting to Teach together with further information.

Following the first sermon, there is a rapid expansion of the early Sangha. The Buddha delivers the discourse on Non-Self, leading the first five monks to full Awakening. The narrative then shifts to Yasa, a wealthy youth who seeks spiritual refuge. His conversion is followed by his father, mother, and wife becoming the first lay followers. Subsequently, fifty-four of Yasa's friends join the order, all attaining Arahatship, bringing the total number of enlightened beings in the world to sixty-one.
