Following his Awakening at Uruvelā, the Buddha spends consecutive weeks sitting in deep meditation under different trees to experience liberation. Under the Bodhi tree, he contemplates the profound sequence of conditional origination in forward and reverse order. He later encounters a proud, grumbling Brahmin and redefines true Brahminhood as being free from blemish. Finally, Mucalinda, the Nāga king, shelters the meditating Buddha from a severe, week-long rainstorm.
