To Mo Koon Temple, Ayer Tawer, Perak
high-definition creative commons photographs from To Mo Koon Temple, Ayer Tawer in Malaysia together with further information
The To Mo Koon Temple in Ayer Tawer, Perak is a Chinese Taoist temple, which is notable for its impressive 8-story twin pagodas which are in the forecourt of the temple. Behind the pagodas lies the main temple, which is dedicated to the goddess To Mo.
As with many Chinese style temples this one is guarded by dragons, which are seen along the roof of the building, wrap themselves around the pillars on the verandah, and feature on the windows. Other common guardians are also seen, lions and sturdy warriors.
Inside the main shrine has two statues of To Mo with minor gods around her, and there are a number of side shrines with more gods who bring protection, good luck and health. At the back of the shrine is a very old palm tree plantation, and I am guessing the temple was built on a cleared plantation.
Although I searched online I have been unable to find out anything about the history of the temple, so if anyone can inform me I would be happy to hear from you (write to: anandajoti@gmail.com)
