Goa Garba (the Womb Cave) is a site alongside the Pakerisan River in Pejeng. It is at the back of the Pura Pengukur Ukuran, but the temple was closed when we visited. There is a fairly long descent on a well-made stairway to get to the site, which consists of a number of caves. There is a gateway which goes up to the temple, and very high and difficult stairs, which were slippy when we were there. There caves have a shrine, and above one of the caves is an inscription in old Balinese letters. There is also a primitive relief of a head, and another of a stūpa, which suggest this would probably have been a meditation cave for Buddhists or for Siwa-Buddha retreatants.
