Hydrabad State Archeology Museum, Telangana

high-definition creative commons photographs from the Hydrabad State Archeology Museum, Telangana, together with further information.

What is now called the Hydrabad State Archeology Museum was established by the Nizam of Hydrabad in 1927 as the Hyderabad Museum. It has undergone many changes in name and contents since then. When I visited in 2024 it was very run down, some galleries – like the Jaina gallery – were not open. The copies of the Ajanta frescoes by John Griffiths were in a deplorable state of neglect (and were behind glass, so it was not possible to photograph them).

The few photographs I managed to get below were on the artifacts that were on display, and not behind glass. A number were from Chandavaram, and a few from elsewhere. There really needs to be a complete overhaul of the museum, and the state needs to release monies for its renovation.

Asoka Inscription, Kanaganahalli

The following has nothing to do with the museum, but was taken at Kanaganahalli in Karnataka. It was the only photograph of this wonderful site that I was able to take. As I have nowhere else to put it, I include it here.
