Niushoushan (Ox Head Mountain) in Nanjing is a major Buddhist site famous for housing the world’s only parietal skull relic of Shakyamuni Buddha within the stunning, modern Uṣṇiṣa Palace. Completed in 2015, this 4 billion Renminbi (USD 500 million) complex blends deep-pit architecture, Zen gardens, and historic temples and pagodas. The Uṣṇiṣa Palace is a massive structure containing 3 stories above ground and 6 underground, featuring the Thousand Buddha Hall and the hidden relic.
